The Kentucky Tai Chi and Qigong Center
Offers Certification Assistance
Dr. Zibin Guo, a UCONN and Harvard trained medical anthropologist and highly regarded Tai Chi master, has developed and refined specialized programs for people with limited mobility. These programs, which incorporate the principles and methods of Tai Chi and Qigong, are being applied with great success to many of the problems typically associated with physical rehabilitation, back and shoulder pain, stroke, heart attack, sedentary ailments, aging, diabetes, and arthritis.
Dr. Guo and his team of medical professionals have developed a Certification program that offers three instructor training certificates, specifically for health care professionals and individuals who are interested in incorporating this form of seated Tai Chi Chuan into their therapeutic endeavors and in promoting physical activity participation for patients with limited ambulatory ability.
The three Certification programs for instructors, as directed by Dr. Guo, are: 1) The 13 Postures of Wheelchair Tai Chi Chuan, 2) The Four Postures for Rehabilitation, and 3) The Four Postures for Back Pain, and Neck and Shoulder pain.
Dr. Guo’s Certification programs are designed for anyone with or without Tai Chi experience and who are interested in using seated/wheelchair Tai Chi to promote the mind and body health of people with ambulatory limitation due to injuries or chronic health conditions, including:
2012 Certification Seminar dates in Chattanooga, TN
During the two-day seminar, participants will not only have an opportunity to attend Dr. Guo and Dr. Johnson’s presentations on the principles and methods of applying Tai Chi to individuals with ambulatory disabilities, but they will also have the opportunity to discuss issues related to teaching seated/wheelchair Tai Chi Chuan to people of various health conditions and limitations in a group setting.
In addition, each participant is also required to:
- Individually demonstrate the form routine.
- Provide explanation of the principles for each move in the routine.
- Present a teaching program/intervention outline/syllabus for a population you are intending to teach.
- Be prepared to answer any questions raised by the members of the committee concerning your teaching program/intervention outline/syllabus.
The Kentucky Tai Chi and Qigong Center, in partnership with Dr. Zibin Guo, is committed to improving the condition of both the mind and the body for people with disabilities throughout Kentucky. To that end, we offer instructor training classes for anyone interested in obtaining certification in Dr. Guo’s programs.
